Background of Candidates
Professor
The candidate must:
- Possess a PhD with specialization in any of the areas listed above or a closely related academic area;
- Must have been appointed as a Professor by a recognized university with comparable conditions for appointment/promotion as those of UPSA. The conditions of UPSA include a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Associate Professor and a minimum of eight (8) publications in recognized journals; OR
- An Associate Professor seeking appointment to the rank of Professor will first be appointed as an Associate Professor to undergo the University’s promotion process.
- Have considerable teaching experience in the relevant area of specialization in a reputable tertiary institution;
- Have a strong research background and professional experience;
- Be recognized internationally on account of research carried out in the area of specialization; and
- Have experience of and commitment to excellent teaching at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
Associate Professor
The candidate must:
- Possess a PhD with specialization in the particular areas of study listed above or a closely related academic area.
- Must have been appointed as an Associate Professor by a recognized university with comparable conditions for appointment/promotion as those of UPSA. The conditions of UPSA include a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Senior Lecturer and at least seven (7) publications in recognized journals; OR
- A Senior Lecturer seeking appointment to the rank of Associate Professor will first be appointed as a Senior Lecturer to undergo the University’s promotion process.
- Have considerable teaching experience in the relevant area of specialization in a reputable tertiary institution;
- Have a strong research background and professional experience;
- Have a record of outstanding scholarship in the relevant area of study; and
- Experience of and commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Senior Lecturer
The candidate must:
- Possess a PhD with specialization in the particular area of study or a closely related academic area;
- Must have been appointed as a Senior Lecturer by a recognized university with comparable conditions for appointment/promotion as those of UPSA. The conditions of UPSA include a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Lecturer and at least five (5) publications in recognized journals; OR
- A Lecturer seeking appointment to the rank of Senior Lecturer will first be appointed as a Lecturer to undergo the University’s promotion process.
- Have a strong research background and professional experience;
- Have at least four years teaching experience at the University level;
- Have carried out research and published articles in the relevant area in peer reviewed journals; and
- Have a commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Lecturer
The candidate must:
- Possess a PhD with specialization in the particular area of study or a closely related academic area of study listed above.
- Have some professional experience in the specific area;
- Have demonstrated potential and interest to conduct research and to excel in teaching; and
- Have a commitment to excellent teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applicants should have a commitment to the advancement of research and scholarship, a willingness to learn new approaches and techniques and to be available for student supervision. Applicants should also be prepared to teach in the distance education mode.
