UPSA commissions new dental clinic

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has officially opened a new dental clinic at the Ewuntoma Medical Centre on the UPSA campus.

The inauguration of the dentistry facility, held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, marked a significant advancement in the institution’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to its community.

The facility is equipped with latest dental technology and is expected to offer convenient access to a wide range of services, including preventive care, diagnostics, treatment and oral health education, to students, faculty, and staff.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. Abednego F. O. Amartey said the establishment of the dental clinic represents a critical enhancement to UPSA’s healthcare offerings.

He said the new facility will not only cut down on the huge amount of money Management spends on providing dental care for staff but also reduce the need for members to seek care off-campus.

“After seeing the numbers on what we pay for our staff to go and see the dentist, I saw the wisdom in employing a dentist, which means the same amount of money we spend outside can be absorbed here,” Prof. Amartey said.

Prof. Amartey urged the clinic staff to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to sustain its benefits for the staff.

He expressed his gratitude to the Medical Director, Dr. Isaac Newman Arthur, and his team, as well as all stakeholders who worked diligently to make the project a success.

The new dental clinic will be fully operational on Monday, July 23, 2024 and will welcome appointments from all members of the university community.

Present at the commissioning ceremony were Mrs. Lorraine Gyan, Registrar of UPSA, the incoming Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Samuel Antwi and Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, as well as Deans, Directors and other senior management members.
