Prof Kwaku Mensah Mawutor pays homage to Ga Dangme Council, pledges support for educational initiatives

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has reiterated the university’s strong commitment to strengthening its relationship with the Ga Dangme community.

He emphasised UPSA’s dedication to supporting initiatives that benefit the Ga community, including cultural preservation, leadership development, and expanding scholarship programs for indigenes.

Prof Mawutor made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on the Ga Dangme Council on Tuesday, March 11.

The visit also afforded the vice chancellor the opportunity to formally introduce himself to the custodian of the land after assuming office as Vice Chancellor a few weeks ago.

Prof. Mawutor outlined his vision to revive the UPSA Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership, emphasising its role in shaping future leaders, particularly among Ga Dangme students.

“The Drolor Centre will provide strategic leadership training, equipping students with essential skills to excel in their respective fields,” Prof Mawutor stated.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that beneficiaries of the maiden cohort of the UPSA-Ga Dangme Scholarship have reported to campus and commenced their studies in various disciplines.

He added that these students are also gaining practical experience through internship opportunities at the university, where they report to work once a week.

Prof. Mawutor also announced plans to promote the Ga language by deploying students to community schools to teach the language as part of UPSA’s community service efforts.

“It behooves all of us to make a conscious effort to preserve the Ga language and revive the Ga Students Association on campus,” he said.

The President of the Ga Dangme Council, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, welcomed the Vice-Chancellor’s initiatives and commended UPSA for its dedication to supporting the Ga Dangme community.

He encouraged Prof. Mawutor to continue fostering partnerships that uplift the indigenes of the land.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo also described the establishment of the Ga Dangme Council Executive Club as a step in the right direction, stating that the move was long overdue and would further strengthen leadership within the Ga Dangme community.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor on the visit were Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Registrar; Dr Joseph Gerald Nyanyofio, lecturer; Ms. Gertrude Amarh Esq, lecturer; Mr Eugene Oninku Esq, lecturer; and Freeman Kwade, Media Officer.
