The management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has paid a courtesy call on former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Okoe Amartey, as part of ongoing stakeholder engagements with former leaders of the university.
Prof. Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, who assumed office in January this year, described the visit as an opportunity to share experiences and update the former Vice-Chancellor on key developments at the university.
He expressed gratitude to Prof. Amartey for his visionary leadership, which contributed significantly to the university’s growth.
“It has been a period of mixed feelings since you left office, but we are determined to build on the solid foundation laid by our predecessors,” Prof Mawutor noted.
Prof Mawutor highlighted key achievements under the new management, including the successful matriculation of 12,000 fresh students this year, the completion of the Professional Christian Union (PCU) Building, and the Abednego F. O. Amartey twin towers, which will soon house the School of Graduate Studies.
“As part of our commitment to continuity and excellence, I will periodically seek your advice to ensure we continue to drive UPSA forward,” Prof. Mawutor assured the former Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Amartey commended the new Vice-Chancellor for his impressive start and urged the new management to sustain and elevate UPSA’s brand.
He emphasised the need for a balanced approach to daily operations and long-term strategic planning.
“You are in the hot seat, and often, people may not understand some of the decisions you take. However, always remember that the responsibility ultimately rests with you, so ensure that you make the right decisions for the good of the university,” Prof Amartey advised.
The meeting was attended by key members of the university’s management, including the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan; Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Samuel Antwi and Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah; and the Director of Finance, Mr. Nicholas Adjei.
Also present was former Registrar, Prof Koryoe Anim-Wright.
