The newly elected President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mr Rashid Ibrahim, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor.
The visit on Wednesday, October 23, 2025, was to formally introduce himself to the Vice-Chancellor and to express his appreciation to the University for its immense support throughout his academic and leadership journey.
Mr. Ibrahim, an alumnus of the UPSA Law School, obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University and is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Business and Commercial Law at UPSA.

He expressed profound gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire UPSA community for their guidance and encouragement, which he said contributed significantly to his rise in student leadership.
“The advice and mentorship I received from the Vice-Chancellor and other faculty members have been invaluable,” Mr. Ibrahim said. “UPSA has shaped not only my academic growth but also my leadership philosophy, and I am truly grateful for that.”
Professor Mawutor congratulated Mr Ibrahim on his election, describing his achievement as a proud moment for the University.

He charged him to champion the welfare of students across the country and uphold the values of professionalism, innovation, inclusivity, and service that UPSA instills in its students.
“You have made UPSA proud,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “As you assume this national role, I urge you to lead with integrity, innovation, and a strong sense of purpose. Be a modern leader who is prepared to solve the problems of your people. By solving the problems of others, you leave a lasting legacy.”
Professor Mawutor further encouraged the newly elected NUGS President and his team to embrace teamwork and collective responsibility in discharging their duties.

“Leadership is not a solo journey,” he noted. “Work closely with your executives, listen to diverse opinions, and always act in the best interest of the students you represent.”
