Vacancy: Registrar Position

The Governing Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of REGISTRAR which shall become vacant on 1st August 2024.

• The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administrative functions of the University in addition to any other duties specified in the University of Professional Studies Act, 2012 (Act 850) and the Statutes of the University.

• The Registrar is also Secretary of the University Council and is responsible for providing secretarial services to all boards and committees of the University.

• S/He is expected to provide leadership and management across a wide range of activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AND EXPERIENCE

Qualified applicants must possess:

• A minimum of a Master’s Degree;

• Not less than fifteen (15) years post qualification working experience in an administrative position(s);

OR

• Substantial Senior Management experience in a large, complex and decentralised organisation, preferably in an academic institution;

And

• Must exhibit high leadership qualities and organisational skills;

• Strong intellect with excellent managerial, communication and interpersonal skills;

• Evidence of in-depth grasp and application of administrative systems and procedures;

• Significant leadership experience at a senior level in a tertiary institution or other organisation;

• Demonstrated ability to develop, articulate and implement strategic thrusts;

• An understanding of the history and evolution of universities, local higher education policy and practice;

• Commitment to the highest level of personal and professional integrity;

• Considerable experience in dealing with a wide variety of internal and external publics;

• Must demonstrate initiative and drive.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Salaries and fringe benefits attached to the post are very attractive and will be specified in the instrument of appointment by the Council.

 

TENURE

The Registrar shall be appointed for a period of four (4) years. The appointment may be renewed, upon application for a further term of up to four (4) years only, if that is not beyond the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years. Applicants should be able to complete one full term prior to attaining the statutory retirement age.
