The University of Professional Studies, Accra invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor to take effect from 1st January 2025.

Position: Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (RIKT)
Reporting to: Vice-Chancellor

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of RIKT, under the Vice-Chancellor, shall:

• Oversee all aspects of research, including postgraduate research, grant capture, research partnerships and research excellence.

• Build strong, sustained and impactful external networks to support UPSA’s research and knowledge exchange strategies.

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the continued development of a high performing and high-quality research and knowledge exchange culture which supports UPSA Strategic Plan and Mission

• Provide senior leadership that promotes a culture of excellence, including collaboration with the Deans to ensure motivational leadership, management and development of the faculties and the senior teams within them.

• Working with the University Executive Team, play a key role in the generation of research and knowledge exchange income to meet our institutional KPIs, including Intellectual Property (IP) and commercialisation.

• Help drive improvements in research quality, intensity, and impact, energising, engaging and working with our researchers, research leadership and colleagues across UPSA, maximise our outcomes in future research assessment exercises and maximise our impact and our income from grants and government funding for knowledge

• Help drive improvements in our knowledge exchange/transfer activity

• Actively pursue external funding and development opportunities, working with colleagues across UPSA to enhance provision and facilities for research and knowledge exchange, and to support and enable specific research and knowledge exchange projects.

• Contribute to the maintenance of academic standards and support the delivery of enhancements to governance, ethics and standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

 

Qualifications and Attributes

• Must be at least an Associate Professor from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

• Must be capable of providing effective leadership, especially in the areas of research policy, planning, administration in the University.

• Must provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the University.

• Must demonstrate capacity to power innovation and drive research and community initiatives and manage such.

• Must have the vision and ability to oversee the growth of the University especially in research excellence, innovation and knowledge transfer.

• Must be able to lead the university in securing major research funding.

 

Tenure

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed for a period of three (3) years. The appointment may be renewed, upon application for a further term of up to three (3) years only, if that is not beyond the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

Applicants should be able to complete one full term prior to attaining the statutory retirement age.
