The University of Professional Studies, Accra invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor to take effect from 1st January 2025.

Position: Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs
Reporting to: Vice-Chancellor

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs, under the Vice-Chancellor, shall:

• Develops and reviews policies related to academic and student affairs;

• ⁠Promotes a learning-centered educational environment, placing educational excellence and student success at the forefront in institutional planning and policy development.

• Provides leadership on curricular and instructional issues, and coordinates distance learning and instructional technology to ensure systems are current and practices are effective.

• Interprets and communicates regulations impacting curriculum, and makes recommendations regarding programmes, standards and policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

• Initiates long-range planning and research to support the development and review of instructional programs in accordance with student needs and the needs of business and industry and in accordance with GTEC regulations.

• Creation of strong relationships with students and student organisations to ensure that programmes and services are student-centered, mission-driven, and responsive to new challenges and opportunities.

• Builds an environment that explores and implements emerging practices in higher education and student affairs.

• Provides leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and review of policies, systems and procedures affecting academic and student matters of the University.

• Oversees academic planning, curriculum development and review of teaching and learning programmes in pursuance of the strategic objectives of the University.

 

Qualifications and Attributes

• Must be at least an Associate Professor from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

• Must be capable of providing effective academic leadership, especially in the areas of innovative teaching, learning and extension in the University.

• Must provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the University.

• Must demonstrate capacity to understand students’ affairs and manage such.

• Must have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth of the University especially in teaching and learning.

• Must be able to fundraise to support students.

 

Tenure

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed for a period of three (3) years. The appointment may be renewed, upon application for a further term of up to three (3) years only, if that is not beyond the statutory retirement age of sixty (60) years.

Applicants should be able to complete one full term prior to attaining the statutory retirement age.

• An up-to-date curriculum vitae with documentation on personal history, academic credentials and working experience;

• A statement of about 2,500 words (not more than five pages) in standard font size on how they would use their position to advance the Vision and Mission of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). The UPSA Strategic Plan can be downloaded at www.upsa.edu.gh

• Applicants are required to submit the complete application pack addressed to the Chairman, Search Committee (Pro Vice-Chancellor-ASA), University of Professional Studies, Accra through [email protected] (electronic copy). The application pack should be submitted as a single PDF file and should contain the information stated above.
