Staff and student groups at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) have extended their congratulations to Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor on his appointment as the next Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Among the prominent local unions that have expressed their felicitations are the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UPSA), the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
Student groups such as the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) of UPSA and the Students Representative Council (SRC) have also conveyed their support and best wishes to the incoming Vice Chancellor.
Professor Mawutor will assume office in January 2025. He will succeed the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abednego Okoe Amartey, whose tenure expires in December.
The local unions, in separate circulars signed by their respective leaders, commended Prof. Mawutor’s distinguished career in academia and leadership, expressing confidence in his ability to steer the university towards greater heights of excellence.
UTAG, the association of university lecturers, hailed Professor Mawutor’s academic prowess, stating that “it remains undisputable that you will bring your scholarship and people management skills to bear on your new role.”
“We are confident that with your leadership, the general welfare and development of lecturers will remain paramount at all times. We wish to also assure you of our support, partnership, and collaboration throughout your tenure to make our university even stronger and better,” the UTAG statement concluded.
TEWU, representing a significant portion of non-teaching staff, emphasised Professor Mawutor’s commitment to fostering a conducive working environment for all staff members, ensuring their welfare and professional growth.
FUSSAG, representing senior staff members, praised the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor’s vision for UPSA’s future, citing his track record of innovative leadership and collaborative decision-making.
GAUA, the administrators’ union, lauded Prof. Mawutor’s inclusive approach to governance and administration, highlighting his dedication to transparent and accountable leadership.
“Your indefatigable nature and impeccable working experience at the administrative and academic positions you have handled at UPSA give us the confidence of your ability to improve the welfare of members, develop and grow UPSA to the next level,” the GAUA statement said.
