The Management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive of the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA), Hon. Ibrahim Faila Fusseini.
The visit, held on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, was to formally congratulate the MCE on his appointment and discuss areas of mutual collaboration to advance community development within the municipality.
Speaking during the meeting, Professor Mawutor said it was appropriate for the University, as a major institution located within the municipality, to deepen its engagement with the Assembly and explore initiatives that would benefit both institutions and the wider community.

“As a University operating within your municipality, it is important for us to come and formally congratulate you on your appointment,” Professor Mawutor said. “We believe there are several opportunities for collaboration that will create mutual value for the Assembly, the University and the people of the municipality.”
The Vice-Chancellor identified student safety as a key priority and called for sustained collaboration between UPSA and the Assembly to protect the welfare of students who live in, commute through, or undertake daily activities within the Madina enclave.
He further disclosed that the University had secured approval from the Department of Urban Roads to undertake road extension works along the main UPSA–University of Ghana Business School stretch. The project, he explained, would include pedestrian walkways and pavements along the IPS Road to improve accessibility and enhance the safety of students, staff and other road users.

Professor Mawutor also indicated that the UPSA Business Development Centre was available to collaborate with the Assembly to develop viable business initiatives capable of generating additional revenue for the municipality.
He added that the University could deploy students to support research and property data collection within the municipality as part of UPSA’s community service agenda.
According to him, the initiative would provide students, particularly those in Real Estate-related programmes, with practical exposure and internship opportunities while contributing to the Assembly’s development planning and revenue mobilisation efforts.
Welcoming the UPSA delegation, Hon. Fusseini expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as an important step towards strengthening institutional relations between the Assembly and the University.

He welcomed the proposed collaboration on research and data collection, noting that reliable household and property information would support effective property rate administration and improve service delivery within the municipality.
The MCE further encouraged the University to submit a formal business proposal for the Assembly’s consideration, adding that a Memorandum of Understanding would subsequently be developed to formalise the partnership.
Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor were Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Registrar of UPSA; Professor Samuel Antwi, Professor of Accounting; and Mr Komla Mawutor Attah, Director of Physical Development.
