The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and Republic Bank Ghana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in professional training, human resource development and knowledge exchange. The agreement was signed on Monday, 7 September 2026, at the Bank’s head office in Accra.
The partnership will draw on UPSA’s academic and professional expertise to support staff development at Republic Bank, with training programmes tailored to the Bank’s needs.
It will also provide opportunities for both institutions to exchange insights on industry practice and emerging developments in the banking sector.
Welcoming the UPSA delegation, the Managing Director of Republic Bank Ghana, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, emphasised the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in addressing shared challenges.
He noted that the success and sustainability of every organisation depended significantly on its people, adding that the Bank placed considerable value on continuous staff development.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would help strengthen staff competencies through professional training and knowledge sharing.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Samuel Antwi said the agreement reflected the University’s commitment to strengthening its engagement with industry and ensuring that its expertise responded to professional needs.
“We are committed to providing tailor-made professional development programmes that will enhance the capacity of your staff. We believe this MoU will yield positive fruits for both institutions,” Prof. Antwi said.
He explained that the collaboration would also enable UPSA to apply academic knowledge to practical industry challenges while gaining a deeper understanding of the banking sector’s evolving requirements.
The agreement therefore offers a basis for reciprocal learning, bringing the University’s expertise into closer contact with workplace experience. This exchange is expected to support the relevance of the professional development programmes delivered under the partnership.
The UPSA delegation included Rev. Dr Stephen Acheampong, Director of the Counselling Unit; Miss Ivy Sarbah of the Office of the Registrar; and Dr Eric Boachie-Yiadom, Senior Lecturer.
The partnership forms part of UPSA’s broader efforts to build strategic relationships with industry that connect academic knowledge, professional development and workplace practice.
