The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has initiated discussions with Republic Bank Ghana as part of efforts to build long-term partnerships with financial institutions for academic advancement and infrastructural development.
The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, on Thursday, April 10, paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku, where he shared his vision for the university and explored areas of possible collaboration.
Prof. Mawutor reiterated his commitment to reposition UPSA as a proactive institution by taking its vision directly to corporate organisations.
He highlighted the introduction of several transformative initiatives, including the flagship Faculty-Authored Book Project, aimed at encouraging lecturers to write and publish academic textbooks that reflect real Ghanaian business case studies to serve as teaching resources in the classroom.
The vice chancellor further disclosed plans to establish a laptop assembling plant and construct a dedicated IT lab on campus.
“A major part of my vision is to ensure that every UPSA student acquires essential IT skills,” Prof Mawutor said. “I am referring to relevant and sought-after IT skills like coding and digital literacy that can enhance their competitiveness in the job market.”
He invited Republic Bank to consider supporting these initiatives financially while also expressing UPSA’s readiness to design tailor-made training programmes for institutions.
Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku lauded the idea of a laptop assembly plant and the faculty-authored Book Project, describing them as forward-thinking and impactful.
“The use of Ghanaian businesses as real case studies for lecturing is commendable. It’s a great vision, and we are happy to support it,” Mr Dzoboku said.
He assured the delegation of Republic Bank’s readiness to partner and support any impactful projects initiated by the university.
Present at the meeting were Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Registrar of UPSA, Prof. Samuel Antwi, Pro-Chancellor; Mrs. Aba Lokko, Director of Public Affairs; and Dr Gerald Nyanyofio, a lecturer at the Department of Business Administration.
