The newly sworn-in Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has met with administrators of the university to outline his vision for the next four years.
The meeting with the local chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA-UPSA) forms part of ongoing engagements with key stakeholders of the university.
Speaking during the meeting, which was held on Friday, January 10, Prof Mawutor emphasised the strategic role of Information Technology (IT) in transforming the university.
His priorities include leveraging IT to enhance administrative efficiency, promoting interdisciplinary research, fostering collaborations and partnerships, and solidifying UPSA’s reputation as a centre of academic excellence.

“We want to create an environment where every student who passes through UPSA must know basic coding,” Prof Mawutor said as he announced a bold initiative to make coding a compulsory course for all undergraduate and postgraduate students.
He underscored the importance of using IT to address administrative challenges, stating, “IT is intended to solve problems, so I’m looking at bridging the existing gap between faculty and administrators, especially IT professionals, to improve internal administrative processes.”
The Vice-Chancellor called on GAUA members to support his vision and work collaboratively to propel UPSA to greater heights.
He pledged to uphold an open-door policy, ensure transparency, and prioritise staff development.
He expressed optimism about the university’s future and reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that prioritises innovation, excellence, and holistic development.
Members were given an opportunity to ask questions and provide suggestions for improvements.
The meeting is part of a broader engagement strategy, with the new vice-chancellor already having interacted with other key stakeholders, including the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Federation of University Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSAG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
Present at the meeting were Prof Samuel Antwi, Pro Vice-Chancellor (RIKT); Prof Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA); Mrs Lorraine Gyan, Registrar of UPSA; Mr William Kuusori, President of GAUA-UPSA as well as executives of the Association.
