Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor has been sworn into office as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

He becomes the third Vice-Chancellor to lead UPSA since the university received its charter.

Professor Mawutor outlined his vision for the university, pledging to transform and elevate the status of the university into a world-class professional institution in Africa.

He committed to pursuing five key thematic goals: leveraging technology, fostering interdisciplinary research, promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and volunteerism, as well as preserving, protecting, and enhancing the university’s culture and brand.

Acknowledging the challenges facing higher education in Ghana, he pledged to address these issues through innovative thinking, bold decision-making, and a willingness to adapt.

“I pledge to approach these issues with transparency, collaboration, and a relentless focus on the university’s mission,” Prof Mawutor said.

Prof. Mawutor, who is an alumnus of the university, stated that his leadership would be anchored in faith in God Almighty and guided by timeless principles and values.

“I see my role as a steward of your collective aspirations,” he said. “My leadership will be grounded on God Almighty, and I stand here to pledge that there will be no middle ground.”

He also paid glowing tribute to the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, committing to build on the solid foundation he has laid over the last eight years.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that students get the needed resources and support to reach their full potential,” Prof. Mawutor said.

“For our faculty and staff, it is your dedication and expertise which is the foundation of the university and so I look forward to working and supporting you to grow the fortunes of the university.

“As an institution of reach, we pledge to work with the new government to achieve its objective. We also pledge to produce graduates with employable skills that will be relevant to the country.”

The induction ceremony was attended by the Deputy Education Minister, John Ntim Fordjour; Chairman of UPSA Council, Dr Kofi Ohene-Konadu; outgoing Vice Chancellor; Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey; Chairman of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye; Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor, as well as traditional leaders, staff of the university, and other dignitaries.
