The Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership provides a dynamic platform where leaders come together to explore strategic leadership issues within a global context. The Centre focuses on leadership development, research and case sharing; while creating a space for creative and strategic “big-picture” thinking.

Our work examines how leaders can build cooperative global partnerships within complex socio-economic and political environments and explores strategic leadership models that deliver sustainable value to various stakeholders. At the heart of our approach is equipping leaders with the communication, competence and influence skills needed to inspire change and create lasting societal impact.

Why Strategic Leadership Matters in Africa

For decades, Africa’s development challenges have often been attributed to external factors such as colonialism, imperialism and globalization. However, internal factors such as culture, leadership practices, governance systems and management approaches have also played significant roles.

Challenges such as corruption, weak governance, political instability and ineffective leadership practices have aggregated to weaken institutions and eroded the public trust, culminating in decelerated development across the continent. Africa must change these trends — and this transformation must be driven by Africans.

A key gap has been the lack of strategic thinking and the limited ability to leverage existing resources to meet development needs. African leaders must inspire confidence, take ownership of their destiny and build prudent global partnerships based on collaboration rather than dependency.

The Drolor Centre was established to respond to these necessities by developing leaders with the social capital, strategic capabilities and collaborative skills required to drive economic and social transformation across the continent.
