The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) is set to establish the J.K. Horgle Transport and Logistics Centre, a Centre of Excellence dedicated to transport, logistics, and petroleum haulage education, training, and research.
The Centre is being established in honour of renowned transport industry leader, Dr. Joseph Kwaku Horgle, Founder and Executive Chairman of J.K. Horgle Transport & Co. Ltd., and will be officially launched on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The initiative forms part of UPSA’s commitment to advancing professional education, industry-focused research, and national development by addressing critical skills and capacity gaps within Ghana’s transport and logistics sector.
The Centre is expected to serve as a strategic platform for bridging academia and industry while promoting innovation, safety, efficiency, and ethical leadership in transport and logistics management.
It also seeks to preserve and institutionalise the legacy of Dr. J.K. Horgle, whose four-decade career has significantly influenced petroleum haulage and logistics operations in Ghana and beyond.
Through J.K. Horgle Transport & Co. Ltd., he built what has become Ghana’s largest petroleum haulage company, earning recognition for setting industry standards in safety, compliance, driver training, and operational discipline.
Acting Director of Administration at UPSA, Dr Leticia Akyeampong believes the Centre will provide an enduring platform through which Dr. Horgle’s values of discipline, integrity, professionalism, and safety can be transmitted to future generations of transport and logistics professionals.
“The new Centre will offer a wide range of professional and executive education programmes in transport and logistics management, fleet safety and compliance, supply chain and warehouse management, petroleum haulage operations, and sustainable logistics,” Dr Akyeampong explained.
She further added that “the Centre will also run a flagship Executive Certificate in Petroleum Haulage Safety and Compliance programme, and will provide specialised training for industry practitioners.”
For students, the Centre will coordinate internships, industrial field studies, mentorship programmes, innovation challenges, and industry guest lectures to enhance employability and prepare graduates for careers in the transport and logistics industry.
The establishment of the J.K. Horgle Transport and Logistics Centre represents a significant milestone in UPSA’s efforts to align academic excellence with industry needs and contribute meaningfully to national capacity building and economic development.
