The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has secured re-accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), reaffirming its standing as Ghana’s first and only ACBSP-accredited business university.
The recognition was conferred at the 2026 ACBSP Annual Conference, held from 11 to 13 June 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The re-accreditation marks another important milestone in UPSA’s sustained pursuit of international excellence in business education, quality assurance, innovation and institutional development.
It also affirms the University’s continued compliance with ACBSP’s rigorous standards in leadership, strategic planning, faculty qualifications, curriculum quality, student learning outcomes, stakeholder engagement and institutional effectiveness.

A distinguished UPSA delegation, led by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Harry Lawson Kwaku Agbanu, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, participated in the conference.
The delegation included the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel K. Asamoah; the Registrar, Mrs Lorraine Gyan; and other senior officials of the University.
They were joined by the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, and Prof. Frank Sena Arku, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Presbyterian University, whose participation underscored Ghana’s commitment to strengthening quality assurance and international competitiveness in higher education.
Speaking after the recognition, Prof. Mawutor described the re-accreditation as a strong endorsement of UPSA’s institutional systems and collective commitment to continuous improvement.

“This re-accreditation confirms that our academic programmes, governance systems, faculty and student-centred learning environment continue to meet internationally recognised standards,” he said. “It is a proud moment for the entire UPSA community and a tribute to the work of successive administrations, faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry partners and our governing bodies.”
Dr Agbanu commended the University community for sustaining the standards that have earned UPSA international recognition and strengthened its reputation as a leading centre for professional and business education.
As part of the recognition at the conference, three UPSA officials were also appointed to serve on key ACBSP Region 8 committees, effective 1 July 2026.
Prof. Mawutor will serve on the Member Relations Committee, Prof. Asamoah on the Articulation Committee, and Dr Edwin Ayernor, Acting Director of the Centre for International Education and Collaboration (CIEC), on the Marketing and Digital Marketing Committee.

These appointments further demonstrate UPSA’s growing visibility within the international higher education community and its contribution to advancing quality business education across Africa.
Through its renewed ACBSP accreditation, UPSA remains part of a global network of institutions committed to outcomes-based teaching, continuous improvement, ethical leadership and institutional effectiveness.
The achievement strengthens the University’s international reputation, enhances opportunities for partnerships and faculty collaboration, and provides further assurance to students, parents, employers and stakeholders that UPSA’s business programmes meet globally benchmarked standards.
