Third-year Public Relations students from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), have donated essential medicines and food items to the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region and the Nyamedua Children’s Home in Accra.
The two donation exercises, organised by students from the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) class, were held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, as part of their semester project under the theme “We Care Group 2025.”
It was aimed at providing students with practical experience in applying public relations principles to community development initiatives.

In a related development, the group also presented food items to the Nyamedua Children’s Home at Ashaley Botwe in Accra.
The donated items included rice, cooking oil, canned foods, toiletries, and other essential supplies.
The group, led by their lecturer, Madam Sandra Yeboah, explained that the gesture was part of efforts to give back to society and to support institutions that care for the less privileged.
She further stated that the project was designed to encourage students to move beyond theoretical learning and use their communication and organisational skills to make a tangible difference in society.

“Public Relations is not only about managing image or reputation,” Mrs Yeboah said. “It’s also about connecting with people, understanding their needs, and communicating empathy through meaningful action.”
Madam Yeboah expressed appreciation to Tobinco Pharmaceutical Company, Dannex Ayrton Drugs, and O’Nart Pharmacy Limited for their generous support towards the donations.
The “We Care Group 2025” also extended their gratitude to the corporate partners for contributing to the success of the project.

Health Coordinator for the Akropong School for the Blind, Mr. Joseph Sowu, who received the items on behalf of the school, thanked the students for their thoughtful gesture.
He described the donation as timely, especially in the face of rising living costs and limited resources for the children’s upkeep.
