Members of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UPSA) have elected new executives to steer the affairs of the union for the next two years.
In a keenly contested presidential race, Dr Redeemer Krah emerged victorious with 119 votes, defeating Dr. Mustapha Idrissu, who garnered 83 votes, and Dr. Joshua Ofori, who secured 52 votes.
The elections, held on Friday, August 8, also saw Dr. Selasie Aformaley Brown elected Vice-President.
Dr. Evelyn Lamisi Asuah was elected as Secretary, while Rev. Dr. Lawrence Asare Boadi will serve as Treasurer. Dr. Alice Aboagye was elected as the Women’s Commissioner.
At the national level, the UTAG National Treasurer position was contested between Prof. Gladys Nabieu and Ivy Eklemet.
Prof. Nabieu won convincingly with 153 votes, earning her the mandate to manage the Association’s finances at the national executive level.
In his victory speech, Dr. Krah expressed deep gratitude to members for the trust reposed in him, describing the outcome as a victory not just for himself but for the entire UTAG-UPSA fraternity.
“To me, UTAG-UPSA has emerged victorious in unity, solidarity, and empathy,” he stated. “Together, we can change our situation through engaging and collaborative efforts. I promise to make you proud.”
The newly elected executives are expected to assume office in October and work towards advancing the welfare of members.
