The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on the CEO of Telecel Ghana, Mrs. Patricia Obo-Nai, as part of his engagements with Corporate Ghana.
The visit focused on fostering stronger ties between UPSA and Telecel Ghana while identifying new paths for collaboration and mutual benefit.
The meeting was also expected to set the stage for a strategic partnership aimed at aligning academia with industry to promote innovation and workforce development.
Discussions centred on the Vice-Chancellor’s short-term vision for academic excellence, including the development and publication of faculty-authored course books to enhance teaching and learning at UPSA.

Prof. Mawutor emphasised the importance of incorporating local business case studies into the proposed course materials to provide practical and contextual learning experiences for students.
“Telecel is a prominent brand within the Ghanaian business ecosystem,” Prof. Mawutor. “Your business model provide a more relevant and valuable learning resource for our students as the university plans to develop and publish its own local textbooks.”
Prof. Mawutor stressed that the initiative will not only promote local businesses but also foster a deeper understanding of their operations.
Prof. Mawutor also announced plans by the university to depart from basic to interdisciplinary research, an initiative geared towards offering real-time solutions to challenges facing the business community.

Responding to the VC’s call, the CEO of Telecel Ghana, Mrs. Patricia Obo-Nai, expressed enthusiasm about the potential partnership, underscoring the importance of collaborations with tertiary institutions.
She highlighted UPSA’s tailored training programs for corporate organisations as a key interest and urged the university’s management to expedite the processes for formalising and operationalising the partnership.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan; Prof. Samuel Antwi, Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Transfer; and Mr. Freeman Kwade, a Senior Media Officer.
Also present at the meeting were Augusta Andrews, Director of Legal and External Affairs at Telecel Ghana, and Mr. Kafui Bonol, Head of Corporate Affairs, Telecel Ghana.
