UPSA, Ghana Armed Forces deepens relationship; renews partnership

A delegation from the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA) has paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.

The delegation led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abednego Okoe Amartey, held fruitful discussions with the new CDS at a closed-door meeting held at the GAF General Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, 24 September 2024.

Issues discussed included the renewal of the existing Memorandum of Understanding between UPSA and the GAF, which has seen some GAF personnel undertake various diploma and bachelor’s degree programmes at UPSA over the past four years.

Prof Amartey also congratulated Lt. Gen. Oppong-Peprah on his promotion and appointment while assuring him of UPSA’s continued partnership.

He praised the Ghana Armed Forces for the seamless collaboration between the two institutions and advocated for more joint efforts in developing courses tailored to the needs of GAF personnel.

For his part, Lt Gen Oppong-Peprah expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed GAF’s commitment to collaborating with UPSA to improve the human resource capacity of the army, particularly in light of evolving global security and intelligence dynamics.

The UPSA delegation included Prof John K.M. Mawutor (Pro-Vice-Chancellor), Prof Emmanuel Selase Asamoah (Dean of Faculty of IT and Communication), Prof Samuel Antwi (Dean, School of Graduate Studies), and Prof Isaac Boadi (Dean, Faculty of Accounting and Finance).

The rest were Prof Fidelis Quansah (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies), Mr Anthony Afeadie (Director of Academic Affairs), and Prof Koryoe Anim-Wright (Associate Professor, FITCS).
