The National Service Scheme (NSS) has conducted an orientation session for level 400 students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The orientation, held on 24 May 2024, aimed to ensure students are well-prepared to embark on their mandatory national service.
The NSS, established in 1973, is a mandatory one-year service program in Ghana for graduates of tertiary institutions. It deploys skilled graduates to support development in both public and private sectors.
The orientation session was led by the Greater Accra Regional NSS Director, Mrs Jennifer Appiah-Bempah, who emphasised the importance of the national service experience in fostering professional development and contributing to national growth.
She detailed the steps involved in the registration process, offering tips on how students can maximise their chances of being assigned to their preferred locations and sectors.
“If you are a family person who doesn’t want to move away from Accra, or if you are already employed and wish to be posted in the same organisation, make sure to specify this when registering,” Mrs Appiah-Bempah advised.
She further briefed students on the various service opportunities available, ranging from education and health sectors to public administration and community development.
The Director for Internship and Industry Relations at UPSA, Rev Theophilus Tetteh, noted that national service is a pivotal experience for personal and professional growth.
He, therefore, encouraged students to approach their service with a spirit of dedication and enthusiasm.
