The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has charged the newly elected executives of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana, UPSA Chapter (GRASAG-UPSA), to champion innovative initiatives that will enhance graduate student welfare and contribute to the continued growth of the University. He gave the charge during a courtesy call on Thursday 23rd July, 2026 when the new executives were formally presented to him at his office.
The delegation was led by the Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr Michael Mickson, and the immediate past President of GRASAG-UPSA, Mr John Nounyah.
Prof. Mawutor urged the new leadership to align the Association’s programmes and activities with the University’s strategic vision, stressing that graduate student leadership must contribute meaningfully to institutional development.
He encouraged the executives to be proactive in identifying opportunities that would benefit both graduate students and the wider University community, while supporting Management’s efforts to further position UPSA as a benchmark for higher education in Ghana and beyond.
The Vice-Chancellor further called on the executives to safeguard the University’s vision by ensuring that their leadership agenda reflects the aspirations of UPSA as a premier professional university committed to scholarship, innovation and impact.
Responding on behalf of the executives, the President of GRASAG-UPSA, Mr Samuel Sasu Adonteng, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among students.
He commended Prof. Mawutor for introducing the University’s Interdisciplinary Research Project initiative for final-year students, describing it as a transformative platform that equips students to develop practical, research-driven solutions to real-world challenges.
Mr Adonteng assured the Vice-Chancellor of the Association’s commitment to working closely with University Management to advance graduate student welfare and support initiatives that contribute to the continued progress of UPSA.
Also present at the meeting were the Financial Officer of GRASAG-UPSA, Mr Norbert Okyere; the Organising Secretary, Mr Kelvin Saka; and the Women’s Commissioner, Ms Samantha Abdallah.
