Vice-Chancellor resolves year-long impasse between SRC factions

Vice-Chancellor Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor has successfully resolved the year-long leadership impasse between two feuding factions within the Students Representative Council.

The Vice-Chancellor brokered peace between the two sides at a conciliatory meeting held on Monday, April 7, with both parties now agreeing in principle to put aside their differences in the interest of peace and to safeguard the image of the university.

The breakthrough has paved the way for the installation of a new SRC leadership headed by John Armah as president with Johnny Hugo Travira and two others as vice presidents.

Mr Travira, a party in the impasse, has also agreed to withdraw a case he filed in the courts in demonstration of his commitment to the peace process.

Addressing the factions, Professor Mawutor urged the new leadership to foster unity and uphold the integrity of the Council.

“I encourage you to work together and direct that you put the SRC together as you came to meet it. Prepare the grounds for the future and use this opportunity to change the face of the UPSA SRC,” Prof Mawutor stated.

The new SRC President, John Armah, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for his intervention and pledged to lead a united front. He also commended the Dean of Students, Dr Philomena Dadzie, for her role in resolving the prolonged dispute.

“We are thankful for the amicable resolution, and we are committed to working together for the development of the SRC and the university at large,” Armah said.
