Vice-Chancellor engages course reps to share vision

The Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor has met with course representatives in the university to outline his vision to the student community and receive direct feedback about their challenges.

Prof Mawutor highlighted a major shift from basic research to solution-oriented research, telling the students that final-year projects will be transformed into digital businesses and software applications, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

“The significance of Information Technology lies in its ability to provide solutions,” Prof Mawutor stressed. “Therefore, we aim to leverage IT by pairing final-year IT students with students from other disciplines for their final-year projects. This collaboration will enable them to develop digital solutions that are relevant to local businesses.”

The Vice-Chancellor in a significant policy announcement also disclosed the introduction of supplementary examinations for final-year students who need to retake certain subjects.

This, he explained, is to provide an opportunity for final-year students to catch up and graduate with those they started with.

“We don’t want any student to be denied the opportunity to graduate because he or she trailed a course,” Prof. Mawutor stated.

The meeting with the course representatives formed part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by the Vice Chancellor, who assumed office at the beginning of 2025.

The Vice Chancellor in responding to the students’ concerns announced the establishment of the UPSA Information and Service Centre which he said is intended to address and respond to the pressing needs of students.

He encouraged the student leaders to be good ambassadors of the university, emphasizing their role in fostering academic excellence and student welfare.
