The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, has been adjudged the Marketing Man of the Year 2018 at the 30th Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) National Marketing Performance Awards held in Accra on Friday, September 27, 2019.
The astute marketer was honoured for his goal-oriented leadership and immense contributions toward making the University a global brand.
In a citation presented to him, the Vice-Chancellor was commended “for enhancing the image and effectiveness of the institution, promoting research and competing in the global higher education environment.”
It further stated that “one notable landmark within your tenure, has been the introduction of fifteen (15) new academic programmes. You also oversaw the sharp upsurge in visibility and brand equity of your institution.”
The CIMG Awards seeks to recognize marketing practitioners and organizations that rely on innovative strategies and modern marketing practices in the realization of their business successes.
Speaking at the event, Professor Okoe Amartey, dedicated his award to the student body, staff and management of the university, who he said, through their collective efforts have actualized the UPSA vision.
“We stand in the limelight now, but behind us, we have clients [students], Senior Members, Senior Staff and Junior Staff, they are the real deal. They made this possible and dedicate it to all of them. I say I’m grateful [for your support and various contributions],” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Almighty God for the honour bestowed on him and lauded the organizers for recognizing the works of the institution.
The Surprise Party
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okoe Amartey, was met with a tumultuous welcome on his return to the office on Monday morning, September 30, 2019.
He was met on arrival by the Chairman of the University Council, Dr Ohene-Konadu, Professor Charles Barnor (Pro-Vice-Chancellor) as well as Rev. J.K. Antwi (Director of Finance) and ushered into an awaiting ‘surprise party’ organized by the management of the University to celebrate his feat.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, Dr Ohene-Konadu said the Vice-Chancellor’s achievement has elevated the image of the University and brought recognition to all its staff and associates.
He said “achieving this prestigious award [CIMG Marketing Man of the Year], which were usually given to those in the business environment, was a clear demonstration of your hard work and unrelenting spirit in attaining professionalism at all times.”
Dr Ohene-Konadu, therefore, called on all to emulate the exemplary leadership of the Vice-Chancellor as he buttressed that hard work always pays.
“I want to assure all of you that whoever engages in hard work, will always be rewarded and this should motivate all of us here, he stressed.
Also in attendance were some deans, senior members, staff and students of the University.
