The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has held its FUTURE READY programme to help students develop the skills, mindset and confidence to navigate university life and prepare for their future careers. Organised in partnership with Transforming Hearts & Minds and DEEP Consulting, with support from the Office of the Dean of Students, the programme took place on 21 October 2026 under the theme “Building the Skills, Mindset and Confidence for Success”.

Welcoming participants, the Dean of Students, Professor Philomena Dadzie, emphasised the importance of preparing students for the opportunities and challenges they would encounter beyond the classroom. Dr (Mrs) Joyce Dadzie, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DEEP Consulting, introduced the programme and its speakers.
Discussions on purpose encouraged students to reflect on their strengths, interests, experiences and aspirations as a basis for setting meaningful goals. Speakers highlighted the value of mentorship and continuous learning, urging participants to take practical steps towards their ambitions using the resources available to them.

Mr Smart Takyi Nixon, Chief Executive Officer of STN Media Consult, shared insights on time management and personal effectiveness. Students were encouraged to prioritise important tasks, minimise distractions and apply the “Decide, Do, Delegate and Delete” approach to managing their responsibilities.
The sessions also explored resilience and the need to respond constructively to setbacks. Participants were encouraged to remain focused on their goals, adapt their plans when circumstances changed and seek support when faced with difficulties.

Building on these discussions, Mrs Ivy Mawuko, Director of Compass Financial Ministry, a certified career coach and an international development expert, and Mr Aaron Lawson, a youth development professional and programmes coordinator with experience in sales and business development management, contributed perspectives on career direction and personal development.
Their contributions encouraged students to consider how their interests and educational choices related to their long-term aspirations. The discussions emphasised the importance of making informed decisions while remaining mindful of broader personal and professional goals.

Across the sessions, a consistent message emerged: academic learning should be complemented by self-awareness, discipline and the ability to manage time and respond to challenges. The programme encouraged students to apply these lessons throughout their university education as they prepare to pursue meaningful careers and contribute positively to society.
