The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, has been adjudged CEO of the Year in the Education category at the 2023 Ghana CEO Awards.
The award was in recognition of his innovative leadership and ambitious initiatives towards promoting access to quality education.
The award was received on his behalf by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor.
It is the second consecutive time Prof. Amartey has received the coveted award after winning it last year.
The award ceremony, held at the Kempinski Gold Coast City Hotel in Accra on Saturday, September 30, celebrated over 50 Chief Executive Officers and business leaders from various private and public companies and organisations for their contributions to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in Ghana.
According to the organisers, Globe Productions, awardees demonstrated a firm commitment to sustainable development through practices such as eco-friendly business operations, investments in clean energy, improved working conditions, and initiatives promoting access to education, healthcare, job opportunities, skills training, and financial inclusion.
CEO of Globe Productions, Latif Abubakar, pointed out that the awards serve as a platform to honour visionaries who have thrived in the face of challenges, turning ideas into reality.
He noted that this year’s recipients were selected for their significant contributions to realising SDG goals in Ghana.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was the special guest of honour, congratulated the awardees and commended them for adopting innovative business models that promote the SDGs.
He called upon business leaders in Ghana to collaborate with the government to achieve a sustainable environment for all.
The event was graced by several prominent personalities, including King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse; Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner to Ghana; Javier Gutierrez, Spanish Ambassador to Ghana; Charles Abani, UN Resident Coordinator; and Mark Okraku Mantey, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
