UPSA Vice-Chancellor pays homage to Ga Mantse

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra.

Prof. Mawutor, who assumed office in January this year, said the visit was to officially introduce himself to the Ga Mantse and seek his blessings as he begins his tenure.

The visit also reaffirmed UPSA’s commitment to fostering strong ties with the Ga State and contributing to the educational development of its people.

Prof Mawutor used the opportunity to brief the Ga Traditional Council on UPSA’s recent initiatives aimed at supporting indigenes of the Greater Accra Region.

He highlighted the university’s Ga Dangme Scholarship Scheme, which provides financial assistance to ten brilliant but underprivileged students from the various Ga communities every year.

He also informed them about UPSA’s language preservation initiative, aimed at promoting the Ga language.

As part of this effort, UPSA students are deployed to community schools to teach the local language, contributing to the university’s broader community service goals.

Accompanying the Vice-Chancellor on the visit were Prof. Samuel Antwi and Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, both Pro-Chancellors of UPSA; Mrs. Aba Lokko, Director of Public Affairs; and Dr Gerald Nyanyofio, a lecturer at the Department of Business Administration.

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, congratulated Prof. Mawutor on his appointment and warmly welcomed him to the palace.

He commended UPSA for its efforts in promoting the Ga language and supporting indigenes of the land.

“Our doors are always open to you, so do not hesitate to engage us,” the Ga Mantse assured.

He also appealed to the university to expand the current scholarship slots so that more Ga students could benefit from the initiative, emphasising the importance of education in empowering the youth of the region.
