UPSA Vice-Chancellor engages feuding SRC factions

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has intervened in the dispute within the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC), urging feuding factions to prioritise the institution’s interests over their differences.

Professor Mawutor made the remarks when he met with the leadership of the two contending factions at a meeting on Friday, March 28.

The meeting sought to deliberate on resolving the conflict that has lasted for over a year.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration, stressing that the continued division within the student leadership threatened the university’s harmony and progress.

“This university thrives on discipline, cooperation, and a shared vision for excellence,” Prof Mawutor said. “It is imperative that we set aside personal interests and work towards the collective good of UPSA.”

The prolonged SRC dispute, which has affected student governance and activities on campus, has been a major concern for both students and management.

The Vice-Chancellor’s intervention is seen as a significant step toward bringing an end to the impasse and fostering a peaceful and effective student leadership system.

The engagement ended on a hopeful note, with both factions expressing their willingness to consider an amicable resolution.

Further discussions and mediation efforts are expected in the coming weeks to ensure a lasting settlement of the dispute.
