UPSA Vice-Chancellor and Management team pay courtesy visit to Prof. Joshua Alabi

The management of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, has paid a courtesy call on the university’s first Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Alabi, at his residence in Accra.

The visit forms part of the new VC’s ongoing stakeholder engagements with former leaders, aimed at fostering institutional continuity and drawing on the expertise and experiences of those who have contributed to UPSA’s transformation.

According to Prof. Mawutor, the visit was to tap into the wealth of experience of Prof. Alabi—an accomplished academic and seasoned politician—whose visionary leadership was instrumental in UPSA’s evolution into a fully-fledged public university.

Prof. Alabi served as the first Vice-Chancellor of UPSA from 2012 to 2016, following earlier roles as Rector (2009–2012) and Pro-Rector (2005–2008), during which he led major reforms that positioned the university as a centre of academic and professional excellence.

During the meeting, Prof. Mawutor briefed Prof. Alabi on recent developments and key achievements recorded by the university since his tenure.

These included infrastructural expansions, a growing student population, and continued improvements in academic and administrative operations.

He thanked Prof. Alabi for his unwavering support over the years and acknowledged his critical role in laying the foundation for the institution’s current success.

Prof. Alabi expressed appreciation to the management team for the thoughtful engagement and commended the Vice-Chancellor for his dynamic and forward-looking leadership.

He encouraged the new administration to preserve the gains made by successive leaders while boldly forging new paths of innovation and excellence.

He also expressed confidence in Prof. Mawutor’s competence and experience to steer UPSA into its next phase of growth and international recognition.

The meeting was attended by key members of the university’s management, including the Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan; Pro-Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Samuel Antwi and Prof. Emmanuel Selase Asamoah; the Director of Finance, Mr. Nicholas Adjei; and the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Aba Lokko.
