UPSA student wins RISE Africa photo competition

Stephen Ofori Amo, a graduate student at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has won the prestigious RISE Africa 2023 Photo Competition.

His stunning masterpieces, which centered on “reviving African unity through harnessing public transport to address urban challenges and climate change,” stood out among hundreds of entries, earning him the well-deserved recognition.

Entries were assessed on their provocativeness or innovativeness, strong aesthetic value, meaningful content, and alignment with a defined theme.

The annual RISE Africa Photo Competition Exhibition brings together thinkers, artistic minds, and enablers from across the continent and the world to inspire impactful actions for enhanced sustainability and resilience in Africa’s urban areas through compelling photographs and other visual representations.

This year’s edition was themed “The Cities We Want”.

Ofori Amo, who is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Brands and Communication Management (MABC) at UPSA, is also a conceptual/documentary photographer and an art director who portrays different perspectives in his visuals with compelling meaning.

The talented photographer recently won the prestigious “Capture the Change” photography contest organised by the U.S. Embassy in Accra, adding to his rich portfolio of local and international honours.

“Stephen’s success serves as an inspiration to aspiring photographers within the University and beyond, emphasizing the transformative power of the quality of teaching and learning at UPSA as well as the incredible achievements that can arise from the confluence of talent, determination, and institutional support,” Dr Ibn Kailan Abdul-Hamid, Head of the Department of Marketing, says.

“With the world at his feet, his future prospects as a professional photographer are brighter than ever.”
