The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has organised a comprehensive pre-academic orientation session for newly admitted first-year students.
The week-long orientation program aimed to equip the freshmen with the necessary knowledge and resources to ensure a smooth transition into university life, setting the stage for a successful academic experience at UPSA.
Addressing the students, Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, encouraged the students to embrace creativity, think beyond conventional boundaries, and step out of their comfort zones.
“Look for problems around you and find innovative ways to address them. That’s the trait of leadership,” Prof Mawutor advised.

As part of the orientation, key university officials took turns to educate the freshmen on critical aspects of their academic journey.
Topics covered included library resources, medical services, learning management systems, ICT infrastructure, hostel bookings, funding opportunities, payment schedules, and student services.
The Registrar, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan urged the freshmen to acquaint themselves with the students’ handbook, stressing that “it contains all the guidelines on how to conduct yourselves throughout your journey here on campus.“
She also emphasised the importance of adhering to the university’s professional dress code, particularly on Mondays, and encouraged punctuality in all academic activities.
For his part, the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Anthony Afeadie, provided insights into academic policies, the course registration process, class attendance, examination rules and regulations, and the grading system.

He also exposed the students to various courses and activities they will undertake as undergraduates while exposing them to essential support services on campus.
The orientation session also provided an opportunity for the new students to meet and interact with members of their faculties for the first time.
