UPSA MBA TQM Students Examine Quality Management Practices at Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Japan Motors

Students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Total Quality Management at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), have undertaken an industrial learning visit to examine how quality management principles are applied in manufacturing and assembly operations. Held on Thursday, 22 October 2026, the visit took the students to Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Japan Motors, connecting classroom learning with industry practice.

The two organisations offered distinct settings for exploring the role of quality management in production. At Entrance Pharmaceuticals, the engagement focused on pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, while the visit to Japan Motors provided exposure to automobile assembly operations.

A central focus of the visit was the relationship between quality assurance and quality control, and how these complementary functions support product quality, compliance with industry standards and operational efficiency. Students examined the systems and processes used to prevent defects and maintain consistency, alongside the inspection and testing procedures used to verify that products meet specified requirements.

The engagement also provided insight into how quality considerations extend across the production cycle, from sourcing and handling raw materials to manufacturing, inspection, testing and the delivery of finished products. This offered students a practical context for understanding how quality is built into processes and verified at different stages of production.

Exposure to the two industries enabled students to relate theoretical concepts to operational challenges and consider opportunities for continuous improvement. It also highlighted the importance of applying quality management principles within the specific requirements of different production environments.

The visit forms part of the MBA Total Quality Management programme’s emphasis on experiential learning, supporting the development of professionals equipped to analyse organisational processes and contribute to effective quality management across industries.
