UPSA Launches Professional Master Class

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has launched a new programme dubbed; Professional Master Class, for final year students of the University.  The Master class is designed to connect students with industry professionals in a classroom setting. Mentor-mentee relationships would also be created for students to gain practical knowledge on how the corporate world works.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey who launched the programme said, he conceived the idea of the Master Class Programme some years ago when he was burdened with the lack of practical industry insight by Ghanaian graduates.

“My conviction was that business and management education which integrate theory and practice will not only be a valuable learning experience for the Ghanaian university student, but also provide a good return on investment. “He noted.

Prof. Okoe Amartey further stated the vision of the University is to become a world class education provider in both academic and professional disciplines.  He said UPSA in line with its vision is taking deliberate steps such as the Master Class programme to produce employable graduates. “To be relevant, our University has to churn out graduates who are not only endowed with theoretical and academic knowledge but also deep-seated practical knowledge.” He stated.

The VC also assured students of free tuition for all professional programmes, which would commence from next academic year. The free tuition is to ensure that all students from the University graduate with an additional professional qualification, thus giving them an edge over other graduates in the labour market.

The Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, Prof. Albert Puni stated that University education is not only about certificates, but the way and manner you present yourself as an individual either qualifies you for a job or not.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Charles Barnor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University,   Dr. John Mensah Mawutor, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies,  Dr. Raymond Dziwornu, Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance.. The rest were Mr. Mawuli Feglo, Dean of Students, Dr. Mrs. Ellen Kwansima Akorful, Dean of Evening School, some heads of departments and some alumni of the University.
