The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has announced the introduction of supplementary examinations for final-year students who trail their courses.
The new policy, which will take effect this academic year, aims to ensure that students are not denied the opportunity to graduate with their contemporaries.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, announced the new policy at a meeting with course representatives on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
“We don’t want any student to be denied the opportunity to graduate because he or she trailed a course,” Prof. Mawutor emphasized.

He disclosed that the new policy has already been approved by the Academic Board, adding that the initiative reinforces UPSA’s commitment to student success and academic excellence.
“By implementing this measure, the university aims to ease the burden on final-year students while maintaining rigorous academic standards,” he noted.
The meeting with the course representatives formed part of the Vice-Chancellor’s stakeholder engagements, providing an opportunity for class captains to ask questions and present their concerns.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the University Management’s commitment to prioritizing students’ needs and safeguarding their welfare. He urged them to be good ambassadors of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor’s engagement with students followed a similar meeting with leaders of various student associations on Tuesday, underscoring the university’s continuous efforts to strengthen communication between management and the student body.
