The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has inaugurated a six-member Audit Committee to provide oversight on financial reporting, risk management, and internal control systems, in line with best practices in corporate governance.
The Committee is chaired by Mr Alfred Osei Kwame. Members include Ms Sandra Amoah, Mr William Kuusori, Mrs Philomena Sueley Dodoo, Mr William Agbaglah, and Dr Edward Bannerman-Wood as Secretary.
They were sworn into office at a brief ceremony on Thursday, January 15, 2025, by the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr Thomas Thompson-Aryee.

The Committee is mandated to review audit reports, advise the University’s governing body on the appointment of auditors, and monitor Management’s responses to audit issues.
These measures are aimed at safeguarding University resources while promoting efficiency and effectiveness in financial administration.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Thompson-Aryee underscored the critical role of Audit Committees, noting that he did not need to remind members of the importance of the body.

He explained that the Committee is expected to serve as a guide to the University in matters relating to financial expenditure and general procurement and urged UPSA to strictly comply with the relevant audit and procurement laws.
For his part, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to sound financial management.

He stated that, as a professional university, UPSA remains committed to adhering to the provisions of the financial management laws and pledged Management’s readiness to work closely with the Audit Committee to strengthen accountability and enhance the University’s financial governance framework.
“The inauguration of the Audit Committee forms part of UPSA’s broader efforts to reinforce transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public resources,” Prof Mawutor said.
