UPSA holds orientation for 5th cohort of National Security Officers pursuing MPSI programme

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), in collaboration with the National Security Secretariat, has organised an opening ceremony and orientation programme for the fifth cohort of National Security officers admitted into the Master of Arts in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management programme.

The event, held at the National Security Secretariat in Accra on Thursday, brought together senior officials from both institutions, faculty members, and over 30 participants drawn from various agencies under the National Security and its allied bodies.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, congratulated the newly admitted students on their admission into the prestigious postgraduate programme.

He described the partnership between the UPSA and the National Security Secretariat as a “testament to the confidence reposed in UPSA’s academic excellence and professional training capacity.”

Professor Mawutor urged the students to remain professional and disciplined throughout their studies, emphasising the importance of adhering to the university’s rules and regulations.

He also encouraged them to take full advantage of the academic experience to enhance their professional competence and contribute to national and regional stability.

On his part, the National Security Coordinator, COP Razak Abdul-Osman, commended UPSA for its continued collaboration with the Secretariat in providing specialised academic training tailored to the evolving security landscape.

“Today is more than just the beginning of an academic programme; it marks the beginning of a powerful journey,” COP Abdul-Osman remarked.

He noted that the growing insecurity in some parts of Ghana and within the ECOWAS region underscores the need for continuous acquisition of fresh knowledge and innovative thinking in the field of security management.

COP Abdul-Osman further urged the students to ensure that their research and project work address pressing national security concerns, adding that the National Security Secretariat remains committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry while equipping participants with the requisite analytical and operational skills.

The Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Dr. Michael Mickson, in his welcome remarks, congratulated the students and guided them through key academic expectations, communication protocols, and available support systems within the University.

Acting Deputy Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Denis Attuquayefio, delivered a detailed presentation on the academic procedures of the University, including course registration, assessment methods, the grading system, and examination regulations.

The orientation provided participants with valuable insights into UPSA’s academic environment, setting the tone for an enriching and impactful learning experience.

The Master of Arts in Peace, Security and Intelligence Management programme forms part of UPSA’s strategic collaboration with national institutions to build capacity, promote policy-oriented research, and strengthen Ghana’s human resource base in the field of peace and security management.
