UPSA holds 7th ICBMED Conference with focus on digital transformation

  • Date April 19, 2022

The 7th edition of the International Conference on Business Management and Entrepreneurial Development (ICBMED) has ended at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The two-day annual international virtual conference provides an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, business practitioners, policymakers and educators to discuss and explore research-based solutions to developmental challenges in Africa.

This year’s forum was under the theme, “Digital transformation: A catalyst for accelerated business development and economic growth”.

Addressing participants at the opening ceremony on Wednesday, April 13, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Charles Barnor who delivered a speech on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the authors on their successful selection whilst urging those whose submissions fell short to try again next year.

He noted that as a professional University, UPSA has come very far in promoting research and service to solve the myriad of challenges confronting businesses in the country and beyond.

Prof Barnor added that he was hopeful that the 2022 ICBMED will provide lasting impressions of knowledge-sharing and advancement among presenters and participants.

“In recent years, some papers presented at the conference have been reviewed and published in UPSA’s own Journal of Business and Professional Studies and other reputable international journals,” Prof Barnor disclosed.

“It is my hope that this year’s conference will provide answers to this uncharted path of how the digital transformation of the Ghanaian economy can accelerate business development and economic growth.”

The keynote speaker, Professor John Effah of the University of Ghana Business School asserted that digital transformation is an evolution that ought to be treated as a socio-technical and dynamic process and not a singular event.

The Chairman of the ICBMED Planning Committee, Prof Ibrahim Mohammed shedding some light on the number of abstracts/papers received.

Statistics on submitted Papers

The Chairman of the Planning Committee of ICBMED, Prof Ibrahim Mohammed disclosed the committee received over 50 extended abstracts for consideration.

However after subjecting each submission to a double-blind review, 26 papers were selected for presentation. These selected papers were then categorised into five thematic areas; namely: Digital Transformation Management; Law and Governance in the Digital Economy; Digital Accounting and Finance Services; Information Technology, Digital Marketing and Leadership; and Digital Entrepreneurship.

He further added that the Committee also selected some papers for presentation under the Doctoral Students’ Session and Research Masters’ Session (both MPhil Finance and MPhil Leadership).

The 2022 ICBMED Conference was attended by over one hundred participants.
