UPSA Graduates 243 Students from its School of Graduate Studies

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has conferred various Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Science (MSc) degrees on 243 candidates from the School of Graduate Studies at the 5th Session of the 17th Congregation, held on Thursday, December 6, at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium.

The ceremony witnessed the graduation of 12 Doctor of Philosophy students, 9 Master of Philosophy candidates, 169 Master of Arts students and 58 Master of Science students.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, UPSA graduated a total of 6,227 students. This number includes 1,204 postgraduate students, 4,045 undergraduate students and 978 diploma students. This total represents the largest number of students graduating in a single academic year in the University’s history.

The occasion was also used to honour three eminent Ghanaians for their distinguished leadership roles: Prof. Joshua Alabi, the first Vice-Chancellor of the University; H.E. Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana, who was represented by Dr. Zanetor Rawlings; and Mr. Joseph K. Horgle, Founder and Chairman of J.K. Horgle Transport & Co. Limited.

Of the three, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings was honoured posthumously.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, congratulated the graduates and made a passionate call on them to be patriotic citizens.
“Use your knowledge to uplift our nation, stand for integrity, serve with humility and let your success become a blessing to your community and country,” he stated.

Addressing faculty, staff, family and friends, Prof. Mawutor also charged the graduates to be innovative by turning ideas into solutions in order to create opportunities not only for themselves but for others as well.

He cautioned the graduates to be guided by ethics in their use of information technology in this digital age and to ensure that progress does not come at the “expense of the vulnerable” in society.

The Vice-Chancellor further urged the graduates to follow the exemplary lifestyle of service and dedication demonstrated by the three honourees.

The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, who represented the President of Ghana, described the honourees as “trailblazers” who challenged the process and, as a result, have “undertaken activities that they are well remembered for.”

He challenged the graduating students to reflect on the lives of the honourees and also “challenge the process” to become exemplary future leaders of the country.
