UPSA graduates 1,271 students at first session of 15th congregation

It was a day of celebration and achievement as some 1,271 students graduated at the first session of the 15th Congregation ceremony of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The graduating students consisted of 134 students from the UPSA Law School and 1,137 students from the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies (FITCS).

They form part of some 4,783 students who will be graduating from the university this year.

Out of the total number presented by the UPSA Law School, 8 students obtained Second Class Upper, 53 Second Class Lower, 56 Third Class, and 17 students had passes.

The Faculty of ITCS, on the other hand, included 728 undergraduates and 409 diploma students.

For the undergraduate level, one student obtained First Class, 136 Second Class Upper, 302 Second Class Lower, 259 Third Class, and 30 passes. Ten of the diploma students attained distinction, while 229 obtained credit and 170 students had passes.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Abednego F. O. Amartey, urged the graduands to leverage the knowledge and skills they had acquired during their time at UPSA.

He emphasised the importance of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and technological literacy in navigating the challenges of the modern world.

He further reiterated the university’s confidence in their ability to make significant contributions to society as they step into the world of work.

“As graduates of UPSA, you are well-prepared to face the challenges of the modern world,” Professor Amartey said.

“Our university has a rich tradition of producing graduates who excel in their respective fields, and I have no doubt that you will continue this legacy.

“Remember the values and principles that UPSA has instilled in you. Be courageous, be compassionate, and be the changemakers the world needs. We are proud of you, and we look forward to hearing about your future accomplishments.”

Miss Jessica Emmanuella Kwao, valedictorian and the best graduating student from the Faculty of IT and Communication Studies, receiving her prize from the Dean of the faculty, Professor Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, .

 

President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mr. Yaw Acheampong Boafo, who was the commencement speaker, advised graduates to build a strong network with various industry professionals to boost their chances of excelling in their chosen fields of endeavour.

Chairman of the Governing Council of UPSA, Dr Kofi Ohene-Konadu, urged the graduates to uphold the values and principles of the university while encouraging them to “be unique but modest” in all their dealings.
