UPSA Governing Council inaugurated

A new Governing Council has been inaugurated for the University of Professional Studies, Accra. Council Members were sworn into office at a short ceremony presided over by the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Monday, April 28, 2025.

The 16-member Council, is chaired by Dr. Harry Lawson Kwaku Agbanu.

In his address, the Education Minister congratulated the members on their appointment and stressed his commitment to refrain from interfering in the university’s internal affairs.

Hon. Iddrisu urged the new Council to prioritise entrepreneurship training for graduates as a strategic response to unemployment in Ghana.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, addressing the new council members shortly after they were sworn into office.

 

“I encourage you, Chairman of Council, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mawutor, that entrepreneurship training and education must be your new primary focus,” he said. “Train a new generation of Ghanaians who are not trained for the world of work but can initiate and create their own jobs.”

Hon. Iddrisu further called for a strong, collaborative relationship between the Council and the university’s management to elevate UPSA’s reputation.

“I am looking forward to a cordial working relationship between the Council Chairman, the Vice-Chancellor, and other principal officers of the University to reposition UPSA as an institution of excellence and impact,” he added.

In his remarks, Dr. Agbanu highlighted UPSA’s impressive journey from modest beginnings to becoming a leading institution of higher learning.

He assured that, under his leadership, the Council would work diligently to address challenges and drive further progress.
