As part of activities to climax the 58th anniversary of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, the UPSA Global Alumni Association held a fundraising dinner to support a university project for the construction of a campus Police Station.
The event, held on Friday, November 3, at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium, was attended by several dignitaries and academics, including the Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Prof Abednego Amartey, as well as deans, directors, staff, students, and members of the alumni association.
The Pro Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John K. M. Mawutor, lauded the alumni for their continued support of the university.
He mentioned that with UPSA poised for an impressive 10 percent growth in the near future, there is an immediate need to elevate its infrastructure to accommodate the increasing student population.
He stressed that the alumni play a significant role in this regard and called on them to persist in their dedication to UPSA.
“Our university is on the path to significant growth, and your support is indispensable in achieving this,” Prof. Mawutor said.
The Chancellor of UPSA, Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong, who was the special guest of honour, commended the alumni group for their unwavering commitment to their alma mater.
He expressed his gratitude for their collective efforts, describing them as true ambassadors of the institution.
He challenged the alumni to mentor and inspire current students, whom he regards as the next generation of global leaders.
“I count on you to offer internships, mentorships, and scholarships to our current students,” Dr Sarpong said.
“You have walked the halls of UPSA, and you possess invaluable knowledge and experience. Share that with them; they are the torchbearers of tomorrow.”
President of the UPSA Global Alumni Association, Mr Francis Dadzie, thanked his colleagues for positively responding to the call to support their alma mater.
He said the event’s success was a testament to the power of collective effort and the strong bond that unites the UPSA alumni.
The fundraising dinner was one of several events and activities to commemorate the university’s 58th anniversary celebrations.
In addition to its philanthropic purpose, the dinner offered a heartwarming reunion for the UPSA family, particularly alumni from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
The Association also launched a short code *771*10#, accessible across all local networks, to enable both members and the general public to contribute to the project.
