UPSA Faculty of Management Studies holds orientation for fresh students

The Faculty of Management Studies of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has organised a pre-academic orientation for newly admitted undergraduate and diploma students to formally welcome them into university life and prepare them for the academic journey ahead.

Welcoming the fresh students on Monday, February 2, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. John K. M. Mawutor, congratulated them on their admission and urged them to take their studies seriously in a rapidly changing global environment.

He noted that the world of work is undergoing significant transformation, with many traditional jobs becoming obsolete, thereby demanding graduates who are not only academically sound but also innovative, adaptable, and entrepreneurial.

Addressing the students, Prof. Mawutor highlighted what he described as three powerful forces that would shape their future—attitude, entrepreneurial mindset, and the “God factor”.

According to him, success is not built on intelligence alone but on character, discipline, initiative, and, for many, faith.

He advised the students to conduct themselves professionally at all times and to eschew behaviours that could dent the image of the University while stressing the importance of adhering strictly to UPSA’s rules and regulations, particularly the professional dress code.

“As you journey through this university, let your attitude reflect maturity. Let your thinking reflect innovation. Let your actions reflect discipline. Let your character reflect integrity. And let your life reflect faith,” Prof Mawutor stated, encouraging them to combine competence with character, ambition with purpose, and hard work with faith.

The Registrar of UPSA, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan, also addressed the students, emphasising the need for behaviour that reflects maturity and discipline.

She indicated that the University has put in place structures, systems, and support services to guide students throughout their academic life and urged them to take advantage of these resources to succeed.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, Dr. Ernest Mensah Abraham, reminded the freshers that the ultimate expectation of the Faculty is to produce graduates who are well-grounded academically and professionally.

He noted that before leaving the four walls of the University, students are expected to embody professionalism, ethical conduct, and leadership qualities that distinguish UPSA graduates in the corporate world.

“My expectation is that, before you leave this university (UPSA), your purpose would have been achieved,” Dr Abraham said.

During the orientation, the students were taken through key aspects of university life, including navigating academic life at UPSA, the use of the Learning Management System (LMS), grading system, fee payment and registration procedures, as well as available security and health services, library resources, and others.
