The Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Ghana, Mr Osahon Ogieva, has met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, to explore opportunities for a strategic partnership between the two institutions. The meeting, held on Friday, 9 October 2026, focused on strengthening links between professional education and the banking industry.
The engagement provided an opportunity to consider how collaboration could support students’ development and connect academic learning with professional practice. Potential areas for future cooperation include mentorship, internships, financial literacy and industry engagement, subject to further discussions and agreement between the institutions.

For UPSA, such collaboration offers opportunities to enrich students’ learning experiences through exposure to industry expertise and workplace expectations. It also supports the University’s commitment to providing education that equips graduates with the knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies needed in their chosen fields.
Professional mentorship and internship opportunities could help students gain a deeper understanding of how concepts taught in the classroom are applied in the banking sector. These experiences could also strengthen their career readiness by developing their understanding of professional conduct, organisational practices and the demands of the workplace.

Financial literacy represents another potential avenue for engagement, with scope to improve students’ understanding of budgeting, saving, borrowing and responsible financial decision-making. Collaboration in this area could draw on the Bank’s practical expertise to complement the University’s academic resources.
The discussions form part of UPSA’s broader efforts to strengthen its relationships with industry and develop partnerships that respond to the needs of students and employers. Engagements of this nature provide a basis for identifying shared priorities and considering how institutional expertise can support learning and professional development.
Any specific initiatives arising from the engagement will depend on subsequent discussions and formal agreement between UPSA and FirstBank Ghana.
