SRC donates water closets to support washroom improvement project

The Students Representative Council (SRC) has donated 15 water closets and other washroom fittings to the Management of the University at a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the Central Administration Building on Tuesday.

The items, estimated at GHS53,044, included one pedestal wash basin, five 3-in-1 spreaders, 10 flexible tubes, and 10 low-level fittings, together with a ceramic cistern and PVC system.

Presenting the items, SRC president, Majesty Ofori Eninfi, said the gesture is to support Management’s efforts toward improving the sanitary conditions in the various students’ washrooms, especially at the Justice Aryeetey Lecture Bock Complex.

He added that the donation also forms part of the SRC’s quest to promote good hygiene practices among the student community.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Management of UPSA, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof John K. M. Mawutor, thanked the SRC for their generous gesture and invaluable support to the University over the years.

He stated that the donation was timely and will be very useful for the provision of adequate toilet facilities to the growing student pupulation, which currently stands at over 20,000.

Prof Mawutor appealed to the students to develop individual interests in protecting the available facilities as the University strives to make their stay on campus a pleasant one.

“We acknowledge your enormous contribution as important stakeholders in higher education management,” Prof Mawutor told the SRC leadership. “But just like Oliver Twist, we would welcome more such donations in the near future as we seek to enhance the lives of our students on campus.”

Also present to support Prof Mawutor in receiving the items were the Dean of Students, Mr Mawuko Feglo; Mr Nicholas Adjei, Director of Finance; and Mrs Beatrice Adjapong, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Registrar.
