Kojo Essel-Mensah qualified as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (United Kingdom) in 2012 and is now a Fellow member of both the Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Actuarial Society of Ghana. He also holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Ghana and an MSc (with distinction) in Mathematical Statistics from Rhodes University in South Africa. He is currently finalizing his PhD in Actuarial Science at University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Kojo has over 20 years’ experience in the Life Insurance Industry. His Life Insurance experience is primarily in valuations with specific focus on embedded values, reserving, experience investigation, bonus declaration, profit analysis and regulatory reporting. He also has about 10 years’ experience in teaching covering both the secondary and tertiary levels and two years’ experience as an examiner and assessor for Independent Examinations Board (IEB) in South Africa.

Kojo is a co-author of a series (12 in all) of Mathematics books written for adults interested in pursuing Mathematics at high school level through distance education. His main objective is to assist in building actuarial capacity in Ghana by training actuarial students and professionals in order for them to obtain exemptions from recognised actuarial professional bodies and practise their actuarial career with confidence.

Research Interest:

His research interest is in the applications of computable general equilibrium model in banking regulation and risk assessment and his main areas of research are actuarial science, mathematical statistics, financial economics and banking.
