
Andrew K. Conduah
Andrew K. Conduah is a Research Fellow/Lecturer at the Institute of Work, Employment & Society (IWES), University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Faculty of Management Studies – Department of Business Administration. His scholarship integrates Population Studies and Business to address organisational and policy challenges in African markets. He teaches Business Policy & Strategy, Research Methods, Business Ethics & Corporate Social Responsibility, Management of Small & Medium Enterprises, Business Management, and Global Dimensions of Business. His classroom approach combines case-based learning, local industry examples, and analytics-driven decision-making tools, with an emphasis on strategy execution, governance & ethics, data governance & trust, and SME growth.
Research focus (interdisciplinary):
- Population Estimates & Projections: demographic trends, migration, and future scenarios for evidence-based policymaking.
- Population Health & Mortality: ageing, NCDs, health emergencies, and preparedness to inform health policy and reduce disparities.
- Business Demography: start-up and survival dynamics to guide economic policy and entrepreneurship.
- Business Policy & Strategy: organisational policy formulation and strategic adaptation for competitiveness and sustainable growth.
- Business Management: organisational behaviour, leadership, and operations—practices that drive performance.
- Public Administration: governance frameworks and administrative reforms to improve service delivery.
- Entrepreneurial Innovation: drivers of innovation and creativity for sustainable entrepreneurship.
Industry background (Banking):
Before entering academia, Andrew served as a Bank Branch Manager, with end-to-end accountability for branch P&L, multi-segment growth (including Retail, SME, and select Corporate segments), and portfolio quality. He led Credit Risk Management—exercising delegated credit authority; directing underwriting and risk-based pricing; overseeing early-warning, restructuring, and collections; and assuring policy, KYC/AML/CFT, and Bank of Ghana prudential compliance. He drove People Management for cross-functional teams (recruitment/onboarding, goal-setting, coaching & performance reviews, incentives/discipline, scheduling/roster & leave planning). Operationally, he ensured strong controls (vault/ATM cash, end-of-day reconciliations, general ledger attestation, vendor oversight), chaired sales/service routines, advanced digital-channel migration, and engaged local businesses and public agencies. He also managed institutional relationships across the Tarkwa mining corridor, including Gold Fields Ghana (Tarkwa & Damang), AngloGold Ashanti, and contractor ecosystems—coordinating payroll and bulk cash services, cash management, collections, trade services, and FX referrals.
