Prof Okoe Amartey honoured as a ‘Pioneer in Academic and Professional Education’ at Africa Academia Awards

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Abednego Okoe Amartey, has been awarded the prestigious Africa Academia Award for being an Excellence Pioneer in Academic and Professional Education in Africa.

The award was presented at this year’s Africa Academia Conference and Awards in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in recognition of Prof. Amartey’s outstanding contributions to academia across Africa.

The award, one of the highest honours at the conference, celebrates individuals and institutions that have made significant strides in advancing education and research on the continent.

The Registrar of UPSA, Mrs. Lorraine Gyan, who received the award on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, expressed her gratitude to the organisers and committee of experts for the recognition.

She highlighted the Vice-Chancellor’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement and his tireless work in shaping the future of African academia.

“This award is a testament to the visionary leadership of Professor Amartey, whose contributions have not only enhanced the reputation of UPSA but have also left an indelible mark on the broader educational landscape in Africa,” Mrs Gyan said.

The 2024 Africa Academia Conference and Awards brought together representatives from 15 distinguished universities across Africa, emphasising the importance of academic excellence and leadership in higher education.

The annual event serves as a platform to identify and recognise individuals and institutions that excel in academic leadership, research, and education management at the tertiary level.
