Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor appointed next Vice-Chancellor of UPSA

The Governing Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has announced the appointment of Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the next Vice-Chancellor of the University.

The decision was taken at a Special Council meeting held on Monday, May 6, 2024.

His appointment takes effect on January 1, 2025.

Professor Mawutor is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor at UPSA and brings to his new role a wealth of experience in Accounting and Finance spanning over 20 years in both higher education and the financial sector.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor, he has promoted the development, diversification, and effective delivery of academic programmes to address emerging national issues.

He also supervised UPSA’s quality assurance initiatives and streamlined academic processes to enhance efficiency while also spearheading faculty-centric and student-centred projects to further enrich the teaching and learning process.

Prior to his role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor served as the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies for six years, during which he significantly expanded graduate programmes and contributed substantially to the university’s overall financial performance.

He also served in various capacities at the university, including Vice Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Senior lecturer, and Programme Coordinator for a number of postgraduate programmes.

Apart from his academic contributions, Prof. Mawutor has held various leadership roles in governance boards, such as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abokobi Area Rural Bank and membership of the Coastal Development Authority Board.

He has also served as chairman of several UPSA statutory committees, including Timetable Committee, Academic Audit and Review Committee, Academic Prizes Committee, and Library Committee.

Professor Mawutor holds a Doctor of Finance degree from SMC University (Swiss), a Master’s degree from Wisconsin International University College (Ghana), and professional certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, among others.

He is a professor of Finance and a Chartered Accountant. As a researcher and academic, Prof. Mawutor has published extensively in indexed and high-ranking journals, presented papers at conferences, and contributed to national discourse through local and international media appearances.
